The S.J. Miska Hearts and Arrows Super Ideal Cut Diamond

Since 1919, the Ideal Cut has been regarded as the finest cut available. However, not all Ideal Cut diamonds are created equal. Some major manufacturers mass-produce Ideal Cuts using machines specified to cut diamonds that fall within the ideal range. Some of the diamonds cut in this way are top quality. Many others could barely be classified as an Ideal Cut.

Other Ideal cutters are very meticulous and cut their diamonds as if each one were a masterpiece. S.J. Miska Hearts and Arrows diamonds are the most brilliant cut of Ideal Cut diamonds. Diamond cutters that produce diamonds for the mass market are usually instructed to cut a diamond quickly and to preserve as much carat weight as possible resulting in a diamond that is not as brilliant as it could be. One important aspect of a diamond’s cut is symmetry. The placement and shape of opposing facets should mirror each other. This pattern is the basis for the name “Hearts and Arrows”. Using a specialized hand-held scope, anyone can view the Hearts and Arrows pattern. If the pattern is crisp and complete, you can be sure that the diamond has exceptional symmetry. 

Another finishing touch that many diamond cutters neglect is polish. Polishing a stone involves grinding away at each facet to achieve a smooth surface. A well polished diamond will show no polish lines or blemishes under 10X magnification. Hearts and Arrows diamond cutters take the time to achieve the perfect polish. Some of the more meticulous cutters use a 800x microscope to check polish.
